Dan spent 23 years as a Kansas Game Warden where he reached the rank of regional supervising Captain. As a Captain he built a program focused on proactive enforcement and growing relevance and trust for wildlife law compliance. During a two-year period, the regional team he led achieved a better than 60% reduction in whitetail bucks shot with a firearm prior to Kansas firearms deer opening (poached whitetail bucks). A compliance improvement that provided significant opportunities for sportsmen and women, the Kansas economy, KDWP budget, and deer management in Kansas. This success was attributed to accelerated growth in relevance and trust achieved by team engagement with strategic partners in mainstream media, peer agencies, private businesses, and non-profit organizations. Aiding with compliance, Dan founded the Kansas Game Warden Facebook page and utilizing engagement multiplying through strategic partnerships, grew its following in three years to being one of the most followed Conservation Law Enforcement social media platforms in North America. This intensive growth in relevance and trust led to wildlife crime reduction that the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks had never experienced in history.
As a field Game Warden, Dan established a 501c3 non-profit with a mission that mirrored Kansas Department of Wildlife & Parks. Utilizing advertising sales in a magazine he founded, “Kansas Game Wardens” income was raised that funded youth hunting events, college scholarships, purchased youth rifles for KDWP, and funded much of his team’s wildlife law relevance projects when he was a Captain. Dan’s achievements for the sportsmen and women of Kansas did not stop there. Dan is among the most decorated Kansas Game Wardens having received multiple awards from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Midwest Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies, Shakar Safari Club International, the Kansas Wildlife Officers Association, and KDWP.
